Flames erupt from Skywest plane at Nashville airport

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A blaze that erupted from a plane's engine at the Nashville International Airport went out quickly after the power was cut.

Airport spokeswoman Shannon Sumrall told media that the Skywest aircraft's auxiliary power unit caught fire Friday morning when the engine was turned on. Sumrall said the fire went out by itself when the engine was turned off. No injuries were reported.

One person posted an apparent photo of the plane catching fire on Twitter:

She said the plane was towed back to the gate.

Skywest released a statement saying the flight 4811 "experienced a brief flame upon engine startup, which immediately dissipated."

Passengers on the Delta flight, who were headed to Cincinnati, were being booked on other flights.
