Finally! Buffalo sees snow
HAMBURG, NY. -- Folks in Buffalo, New York, in the heart of the Lake Erie snow belt, know extreme weather, but this month, they've experienced the polar opposite of the usual wintry weather.
Usually, snow, sleet, and freezing rain fall throughout the Buffalo region in December.
At around 2:00 p.m. this afternoon the first flakes started to fall, which marked the latest date the Buffalo area has gone without snow since 1899.
Chief meteorologist Eric Fisher at CBS Boston reports that snow will fall in the Northeast, on Sunday after a cold front drives temperatures into the 20s and 30s.
The holiday forecast includes record temperatures up to 25 degrees higher than average on the East Coast, Fisher reports. As New Englanders' experience temperatures as high as the 60s on Christmas Eve, more cold temperatures will hit the West Coast on the holidays.
The snow respite was welcomed by many here. Last year, around this time, over 100 inches of snow had already fallen due to lake effect snow storms in November, that dropped over 7 feet of snow.
