Man falls to his death at Chicago hotel

CHICAGO -- The man who died in a fall while taking photographs atop the LondonHouse hotel in Chicago has been identified.

Eric Paul Janssen, 44, worked in digital marketing in Memphis, Tennessee, CBS Chicago reports. He was killed when he fell from a 20th-floor parapet wall and struck a sixth-floor rooftop below, authorities say.

The Cook County Medical Examiner says Janssen died from multiple injuries and the death was ruled an accident. Sources tell CBS Chicago Janssen was not authorized to be on the property.

Longtime friend Angela Copeland says Janssen had three children and loved his work.

"He loved the photography aspect and the exploring aspect. But he was trained as a journalist, and so I think there was part of him that really hit on that," she says.

Last year, Janssen posted to Facebook asking for support for a fellow photographer who had been injured in a fall in Memphis.
