Eric Garner's daughter criticizes Hillary Clinton after WikiLeaks emails

Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, fired off blistering denunciations of Hillary Clinton on Twitter this week, after a WikiLeaks-released email showed the campaign discussing her father’s death in political terms.

“I’m troubled by the revelation that you and this campaign actually discussed ‘using’ Eric Garner,” Garner said in a tweet Thursday.

Garner appeared to be referencing this email, part of a thread where Clinton spokesperson Nick Merrill, senior policy adviser Maya Harris, and policy adviser Corey Ciorciari discuss an op-ed about gun violence and whether to “mention” Eric Garner. Garner died in 2014 when New York police officers put him in a chokehold, after they attempted to arrest him for selling cigarettes on a Staten Island sidewalk.

Merrill noted that the campaign had “Erica Garner issues,” but said that “I can see her coming after us for leaving him out of the piece.”

While it’s unclear what “issues” the campaign had with Garner, the activist has been a vocal critic of Clinton and -- at the time of the email exchange -- had already publicly endorsed Clinton’s Democratic primary rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Harris replied that Garner’s death was “not included because [he was] not killed by gun violence.”

Garner sent out this series of angry tweets responding to the email:
