Energy stocks, beaten down all week, lead a market rebound

NEW YORK - U.S. stocks advanced on Thursday, with the downtrodden energy sector leading a rebound that has Wall Street on track for its first positive session this week.

Natural gas and coal producer Consol Energy climbed nearly 11 percent.

The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 153 points, or 0.9 percent, to 17,645 as of 2:20 p.m. ET.

The S&P 500 index rose 14 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2,062, with energy up the most among its 10 major sectors. The Nasdaq composite increased 39 points, or 0.8 percent, to 5,063.
