Elementary school principal arrested in child sex sting

ATLANTA - An Atlanta elementary school principal was among 14 people arrested in an undercover investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and other agencies targeting people using the Internet to try to meet children for sex.

John McGill, 56, a principal at Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Douglas County, is charged with traveling with intent to have sex with a child, reports CBS Atlanta.

A spokeswoman for the school system, Karen Stroud, says McGill has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

McGill's attorney, Mac Pilgrim, says the principal hasn't yet been able to tell his side of the story and "there's always more than meets the eye."

McGill is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

McGill's online bio says he's married with six children and three grandchildren, and he has been a public school administrator for 18 years, including 14 as a principal, according to the paper.
