Driver killed in Cincinnati when tree crushes car

CINCINNATI -- A tree crashed onto a car driven by a 65-year-old woman in Cincinnati, killing her, police said.

The uprooted tree fell onto the car around 4 p.m. Sunday in the city's Bond Hill section.

Police told CBS News affiliate WKRC that Jacqueline Carr, the only occupant, died at the scene.

A witness, Leonard Washington, told WKRC's Brad Underwood that he heard the tree hit her car and immediately ran over to try to help her get out.

"She had very minimum speech ... her last words were, 'Help me, can you help me,'" Washington said. "I tried to see if I could get anything off the car, get into her car, [but] was unable to do so."

Winds were reported to be minimal at the time.

Multiple residents in the area said the tree was old and marked with an X for months, as if it had been scheduled to be torn down.

"It's just scary to think about what happened," said Jessica Jackson, who lives just yards from the fallen tree. "It's so hard to imagine that the tree that you drive past every day can be that one thing that kills you, just driving down the street."
