Donald Trump: I'd hope Ivanka would find new career if she were harassed

Trump: I hope Ivanka would leave job if harassed

Donald Trump said in a new interview that if his daughter Ivanka were sexually harassed in the workplace, that he hopes she would find a new employer or career.

"I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case," the GOP presidential nominee told USA Today.

Donald Trump is "very sad" about Roger Ailes resigning

He made the comment in the context of a conversation about former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, who left the network late last month amid sexual harassment allegations made by former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson and others.

Trump has suggested he's a bit skeptical of their claims.

"He's been a friend of mine for a long time and I can tell you that some of the women that are complaining, I know how much he's helped them. And even recently and when they write books that are fairly recently released, and they say wonderful things about him," Trump said in an interview July 24 on NBC's "Meet the Press."

He made a similar comment to USA Today.

"There was quite a bit of fabulous things said [about Ailes by Gretchen Carlson]," Trump said. "It would be easier for me and more politically correct for me to say you are right. But you would think she wouldn't say those things."

In an interview Tuesday on "CBS This Morning," his son Eric Trump was asked to react to his father's statement about Ivanka.

"I think what he's saying is, Ivanka is a strong, powerful woman, she wouldn't allow herself to be objected to it, and by the way, you should take it up with human resources, and I think she would as a strong person, at the same time, I don't think she would allow herself to be subjected to that. I think that's a point he was making, and I think he did so well," he said.

Fox News' Megyn Kelly, who has also told attorneys that she was subjected to sexual harassment by Ailes, saw a tweet about the younger Trump's comments and answered with her own brief tweet.
