Ex-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski opens up on Trump's veep choices

Donald Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who recently signed on with CNN as a political commentator, opened up Thursday about his old boss' list of vice presidential choices, noting that Trump's list included "no more than four" names.

"These are the absolute, very best," Lewandowski said Thursday, during his first appearance on CNN as a paid contributor after he was fired from the Trump campaign earlier this week. "They're people that everyone will know. They're household names. They're people that he has said will help him achieve his legislative agenda."

"The individuals who he is talking to about being part of that process have all agreed that they want to be part of that process," he added. "There's been some speculation out there that people don't want to be part of this -- it's absolutely the opposite."

While Lewandowski gave no other specifics about who was on Trump's shortlist, the billionaire himself has indicated that he would choose someone with a more political bent for the vice presidential office.

"I think I'll probably go the political route, somebody that can help me with legislation and somebody that can help me get things passed and somebody that's been friends with the senators and the congressman and all," Trump told MSNBC last month.

But whoever Trump settles on for a running mate, Americans feel strongly about who the presumptive GOP nominee should not choose.

According to a survey out Thursday conducted by Monmouth University, which tested out six potential veep picks for Trump, over 40 percent of registered voters expressed negative opinions about Sarah Palin, the Republican party's 2008 vice presidential nominee. Those voters said they would be less likely to vote for Trump if she was his addition to the GOP ticket. Only 13 percent of voters said that a Palin veep pick would make them more likely to vote for Trump.
