Avoiding protesters, Donald Trump scales wall to reach event

During the second day of anti-Donald Trump demonstrations in California, activists surrounded the venue where Trump was scheduled to speak, with protests escalating to the point that even the Republican presidential candidate had some difficulty getting to his own event.

To avoid the protesters Friday, Trump, along with his Secret Service detail, was forced to re-route and enter the Hyatt Regency hotel in Burlingame through some backdoor means -- involving, among other maneuvers, an ironic climb over a low wall.

Throughout his primary campaign, the New York billionaire has promised to build an enormous wall -- complete with a "big, beautiful door" -- along the U.S.-Mexico border as a protection against illegal immigration. Earlier this month, the Trump campaign even outlined in a memo how he would implement his plan with Mexico's financial backing.

The protesters Friday were demonstrating against several controversial Trump's policies, including his proposals along the border.

The New York Post poked fun at the irony on Saturday's front page:

Trump mentioned his fence-hopping in his opening remarks Friday to the California state GOP convention.

"We went under a fence and through a fence," Trump said at the luncheon. "And oh boy, it felt like I was crossing the border, actually."
