Docs: Rikers guard accused of sex with inmate says she was "fooled"

NEW YORK -- Authorities say a Rikers Island correction officer has been suspended after having sex with an inmate.

A criminal complaint states Nicole Bartley told investigators she was "fooled" by the inmate into a romantic relationship and had planned to bring him marijuana.

Bartley was arrested Saturday after a drug-sniffing dog picked up a scent of marijuana on her when she reported for work.

Authorities didn't find drugs on her but later found marijuana at her home, which they determined was intended for the inmate.

Bartley faces charges of rape, promoting prison contraband and official misconduct. The rape charge stems from a state law that says inmates cannot consent to sex in the jail.

Bartley has been released on $1,000 bail.

It's not clear if she has a lawyer who could comment on her behalf.
