Disney unveils trailer for Steven Spielberg's "The BFG" based on Roald Dahl's children's book

Disney unveiled a first look at Steven Spielberg's live-action adaptation of Roald Dahl's "The BFG" on Wednesday with a first trailer of the upcoming family film.

"It was the witching hour when the boogie man comes out, when people go missing" the trailer begins.

Based on Roald Dahl's 1982 children's book, "The BFG" (which stands for The Big Friendly Giant) tells the imaginative story of a young girl named Sophie and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.

The film stars Ruby Barnhill as Sophie along with "SNL" alum Bill Hader, British actor Mark Rylance, Rebecca Hall ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona") and Penelope Wilton ("Downton Abbey").

Spielberg directed the movie, which was written by Melissa Mathison, who died in November at age 65. The pair had worked together before: Mathison received an Oscar nomination for writing Spielberg's 1982 film, "E.T."

"The BFG" hits theaters next summer.
