Detroit man robbed by impostor claiming to be cop

DETROIT -- Investigators are searching the city of Detroit for suspects who claimed to be police officers while robbing a man, CBS Detroit reported.

The victim was a 43-year-old man who was walking down the street, when a dark-colored Dodge Charger pulled up, police told reporters. A man -- dressed in all back -- exited the vehicle, identifying himself as an officer.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. Wednesday, a few blocks north of I-94 on the city's east side, according to CBS Detroit.

According to the police, the alleged "policeman" then pointed towards his waistband to imply he was armed and patted down the victim -- robbing him of his cellphone and wallet. Leaving the victim uninjured, the man got back into the vehicle and fled westbound on I-94, reported the station.

The victim told police that there were three other people in the car -- one who looked to be as young as 15-years-old.

The alleged robber appeared to be a black male in his 20s with a dark complexion, about 6 feet tall and weighing200 pounds.
