Police: Son arrested, charged with mother's murder

LAUREL, Del. -- Delaware State Police say a man has been charged with murdering his mother.

Police and state troopers were called to a Laurel home Thursday afternoon, according to CBS affiliate WBOC. Upon arrival, family members then told police they had found 61-year-old Yolande Georges dead.

Police say the victim had obvious trauma to her upper body.

Authorities say an investigation led officers to Georges' son, 25-year-old Dukinson Appolon, who was already in police custody, after a report of a suspicious person walking in the middle of a road.

Police say Appolon attempted to harm himself, causing the trooper to deploy his stun gun, the station reported. Appolon was taken to a hospital for treatment.

He was later charged with first-degree murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

He is currently being held without bail. It isn't clear if Appolon has an attorney.

The Delaware State Police continues to investigate this incident and the motive has yet to be determined, according to WBOC.
