NYPD: Body found in airplane debris in waters off Queens

NEW YORK -- Police said late Wednesday they had recovered a male body in the wreckage of a small plane that reportedly went down in the Atlantic Ocean off Queens.

The body was found in the area where several aircraft parts were recovered about a mile and a half off Breezy Point, according to the NYPD.

Authorities went to the scene following 911 calls from witnesses reporting a plane down at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, CBS New York reported.

Sources told CBS New York the plane was believed to be a two-seater, headed from Philadelphia to Maine.

The FAA said it had no reports of any missing aircraft in the area, but was investigating.

It's still not clear how many people were on the plane or what caused it to crash.
