Massachusetts principal of the year charged with DUI

DEDHAM, Mass. --A Massachusetts middle school principal of the year is off the job after being charged with drunken driving.

Authorities say Dedham Middle School Principal Debra Gately was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty Monday.

She was pulled over by police in Weston last weekend.

Dedham Superintendent Michael Welch says Gately has been placed on administrative leave "so she has the time to focus on her situation and we can conduct a thorough investigation."

Gately was named Principal of the Year by the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association in 2015.

Efforts to reach Gately were not immediately successful.
