Daytime Emmys: “Sunday Morning,” “CBS This Morning” nominated for Outstanding Morning Program

CBS led the broadcasting networks in the number of Emmy Award nominations (70) with the announcement Wednesday of nominations for the 44th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

“CBS Sunday Morning” and “CBS This Morning” were each nominated for Outstanding Morning Program.

The newsmagazine show “Sunday Morning,” anchored by Charles Osgood and, beginning last fall, by Jane Pauley, has won Outstanding Morning Program three of the last four years.

“Sunday Morning” also received Emmy nominations in the categories of Outstanding Directing in a Talk Show/Entertainment News or Morning Program (for director Nora Gerard and her crew); and Outstanding Technical Team.

“CBS This Morning” (hosted by Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell) presents national and global news, as well as interviews with newsmakers and celebrities. “CBS This Morning” was also nominated for Outstanding Technical Team.

“CBS This Morning: Saturday” also picked up nominations for its “Saturday Sessions” performances by St. Paul and the Broken Bones and by Charles Bradley, for Outstanding On-Camera Musical Performance in a Daytime Program.

The awards recognize daytime programs from the 2016 calendar year.

Nominations were announced on the show “The Talk,” which itself was nominated for eight Emmys, including Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment.

Other CBS programs honored were the dramas “The Young and the Restless” (whose 25 nominations made it the most-nominated daytime show) and “The Bold and the Beautiful” (with 23 nods); and the game shows “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price Is Right.”

Two Saturday morning shows, “Lucky Dog with Brandon McMillan” and “The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation,” each received one nomination.

The full nominations list can be found online at emmyonline.org.

The 44 Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Sunday, April 30. The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards will also be held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Friday, April 28.
