David Letterman plays April Fools' Day prank on Kristin Chenoweth on "Late Show"

Kristin Chenoweth got a bit of a scare on Tuesday, courtesy of an April Fools' Day prank during her appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman."

During her sit-down, the actress was asked about the 2012 accident that happened to her on the set of "The Good Wife," when she was struck in the head by a piece of lighting equipment and was briefly hospitalized.

After telling host David Letterman about her injuries, she added, "Because that happened, no matter where I'm at, I always look up. Because I wanna know, you know, if anything's gonna fall."

"Well, sure," Letterman agreed, before a sandbag suddenly dropped onto his desk, startling the Broadway star.

She gave a shout, then immediately began laughing. "I'm sweating in-between my cleavage!" she exclaimed after crossing herself. "Dave, Dave -- it's April Fools! You got me!"

You can see the prank (and the entire episode) at the "Late Show" website. Chenoweth's appearance begins around the 18:30 mark.

Chenoweth was a good sport about the whole thing, and even sang for the late-night host after the prank. Watch her rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" below:
