David Alan Grier joked that he's the new face of KFC
No, KFC will not be changing up Colonel Sanders' look.
Actor and comedian David Alan Grier sent fans into a tizzy when he announced on Twitter that he would be the new face of the fast food chain.
"Breaking News: David Alan Grier has been cast as the first African American Colonel Sanders in the new KFC ad campaign. #KFC," he wrote on Thursday.
But the statement turned out to be false. The fried chicken brand said that Grier was not in line to play the bearded, white-suited Colonel Sanders.
"There is no new Colonel Sanders," KFC executive Kevin Hochman said in a statement, per the Daily News.
"We are very excited to learn that Mr. Grier is such a big fan of KFC and The Colonel," Hochman added. "We're a big fan of him as well. We hope to continue the conversation with him over a $5 Fill Up."
It looks like Grier was just bored today and needed something fun to pass his time; he certainly enjoyed engaging with fans who reacted to the news.
One fan wrote to him, "I bet white people will seethe," and Grier responded, "Let us hope!"
He retweeted several other fan reactions.
We hope KFC gives the actor some drumsticks along with that $5 Fill Up.
