Dave Grohl reveals his epic David Bowie rejection experience

In the wake of David Bowie's death last month, more and more musicians are coming forward with tales of the "Life on Mars" singer's unique talent for telling people "no," with the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl the latest.

David Bowie on staying positive

While reminiscing about Bowie in a video for Playboy.com, Grohl recalled an experience from two years ago in which he asked the British music legend to sing on a track he'd written for an unnamed film. Bowie's initial response, he remembered, was friendly enough.

"David, I watched the movie and I got to be honest, it's not my thing," Grohl recalls Bowie writing. "I'm not made for these times. So thanks, but I think I'm gonna sit this one out."

But when the former Nirvana drummer sent an understanding email in response, he got a much saltier message back: "All right, well that's settled, then. Now f**k off," Bowie wrote.
