Dave Chappelle upset his stand-up comments were taken as pro-Trump

Ahead of his debut as a “Saturday Night Live” host on November 12, reclusive comedian has been popping up at comedy clubs around New York City for impromptu sets.
But some of the reactions he’s been getting haven’t been to his liking.
During a set on Friday, Chappelle made comments about Donald Trump’s leaked “Access Hollywood” audio during which the former “Apprentice” host described kissing and groping women as soon as he met them.
“What I heard on that tape was gross,” Chappelle explained. “But the way I got to hear it was even more gross. You know that came directly from Hillary.”
Chappelle also took issue with the argument that Trump’s words amounted to describing sexual assault. “Sexual assault? It wasn’t,” Chappelle said. “He said, ‘And when you’re a star, they let you do it.’ That phrase implies consent. I just don’t like the way the media twisted that whole thing. Nobody questioned it.”
Reactions on social media to Chappelle’s comments were strong, with many fans expressing disbelief at the idea that the “Chappelle’s Show” star is a Trump supporter.
But apparently they got it all wrong, as a rep for Chappelle explained in a statement.
“Dave is disgusted by the tone of the election and especially by the idea that his comedy would be misconstrued to defend Trump,” the rep said. “His comedy show blasted both candidates. By the way, he voted for Hillary.”
