D.C. Police: Alleged robber tried to escape via Uber

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A 23-year-old man allegedly robbed a store and was caught by police while attempting to catch an Uber ride away from the scene, according to CBS Washington.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police say Dashawn Terrell Cochran walked into the store, picked up a bottle of Tylenol cold medicine and put it on the counter.

As one employee walked to the register to help with the purchase, police say Cochran approached another employee, pointed a gun at him, and took him to the register. Cochran then allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

Officers were able to get a description of the suspect and a K-9 unit tracked the path of his escape. Cochran was later seen getting into the back of a silver Lexus, which was stopped, and all three occupants were detained.

The man behind the wheel told police he was an Uber driver and had just picked up two passengers, including Cochran. It was determined that the driver and the second passenger in the vehicle had nothing to do with the robbery so they were released, according to the station.

Cochran has been charged with armed robbery and is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $500,000 bail.
