Cops: Young mother missing under "suspicious" circumstances

MEDFORD, N.Y. - After a young mother disappeared under suspicious circumstances, police and the woman's loved ones are seeking answers, reports CBS New York.

Twenty-one-year-old Sarah Patricia Goode, of Long Island, N.Y., disappeared Friday night after watching TV with friends after work, according to the station.

Elizabeth DeMuria, Goode's sister, told CBS New York the missing woman, a medical technician, is the mother of a 4-year-old girl. DeMuria described her sister as gracious and outgoing.

The station reports Goode's gray 1999 BMW was found a mile from the Medford, N.Y., home she shares with her mother and daughter. Detective Sgt. Michael Fitzharris of the Suffolk County police said the find was suspicious.

"We were very concerned about that," Fitzharris told CBS New York. "This is a 21-year-old lady. She has a... very close family, and the circumstances - as I've explained - are suspicious to us."

There were signs of an apparent struggle inside Goode's unoccupied BMW, according to the station. Police towed the car away, but the neighborhood in which it was found remains tense.

"We're horrified - I mean, we're praying that she, you know, maybe just didn't tell her parents where she was going," said one person who lives near where the vehicle was found. Another person in the area told CBS New York there appeared to be blood in the car.

The station reports police have searched a wooded area near where the car was parked, and officers armed with machetes cut through brush as they combed through the woods. As of Monday, nothing had been found.

"Your baby girl can't wait to give you that great big hug when you come home," a tearful DeMuria told the station, speaking to her sister. "We just want you to come home safely.... Please, if anybody knows anything, please let somebody know."

Authorities said Goode recently broke up with her boyfriend, but officers are not currently seeking a person of interest in the disappearance, according to CBS New York.

Fitzharris said Goode didn't have any drug or alcohol problems. She is described as white with a light complexion, 5-foot-3, weighs 100 pounds and has long, brown hair with blond highlights. She has brown eyes and a flower tattoo on one foot.

Anyone with information about Goode's whereabouts is asked to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at (800) 220-TIPS.
