Woman allegedly convinced son, 6, he had cancer

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. - A Colorado woman's cancer-fraud scam allegedly took the deception to a whole other despicable level - Sandy Nyugen, of Arapahoe County, is accused of convincing her 6-year-old son that he had cancer, so she could organize fundraisers and pocket the money, reports CBS Denver.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department says Nyugen concocted the story about her son having cancer to collect more than $25,000 in donations.

Investigators believe the woman even took her family to Disneyland with some of the donated funds, according to the station.

Investigators say the boy's elementary school rallied around him to raise money.

Nguyen allegedly she admitted her son does not have cancer after she was arrested.

She faces charges of theft and criminal impersonation.
