Cops: Texas officer, wife dead in apparent murder-suicide

DALLAS - A Texas police sergeant and his wife were found dead in their Dallas apartment Wednesday in what police are calling a possible murder-suicide, reports CBS DFW.

Authorities say Nick Pitofsky, 47, a patrol sergeant for the Crandall Police Department, and his wife Vanessa Pitofsky, 42, were found dead of gunshot wounds during a welfare check at their home. Nick Pitofsky is being called a suspect in the deaths, according to the station.

Those who knew Crandall described him as a kind officer who was very involved in the community, reports the station.

"Nick was well respected by his peers and will be deeply missed by the city and department as a whole," the Crandall Police Department said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Pitofsky had worked with the department for about two years.
