Cops: Ohio murder victim climbed fence, couldn't escape attacker

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Authorities have identified a woman whose body was found dangling from a chain-link fence in a southern Ohio city.

Law enforcement officials in Chillicothe said Wednesday that 31-year-old Rebecca Cade was apparently in a fight, ran from her attacker, and got into a lot surrounded by a fence. Police say she apparently tried to climb the fence to get away, but her clothes got caught, trapping her, reports CBS affiliate WBNS.

Officials say she was beaten to death.

Cade's body was found Tuesday. Police say her death isn't related to a string of suspicious deaths and disappearances of local women.

Ross County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt says a bloody rock recovered by investigators was apparently used in the attack.

Earlier Wednesday a judge ordered 27-year-old Donnie Cochenour Jr. held on $2 million bond after he pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder in Cade's death.

Chillicothe Police Chief Keith Washburn said Cade and Cochenour knew each other, but it's not clear why he attacked her, reports WBNS.

Cade had a 15-month-old son, Bryan, who was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, the child's guardian told WBNS.

Denise Hughes said she is the sister of the child's father, and that she was granted custody of the child when Cade couldn't care for him. However, she said Cade loved the child and checked in often, calling seven to eight times a day.

"I really feel sorry for her. But I feel sorry for (Bryan) too, because she's not going to be there as he grows up," Hughes told the station.
