Cops: La. tot missing after mom found shot to death

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Baton Rouge police are searching for a missing toddler after the child's mother was found dead in a vehicle from a gunshot wound.

The Advocate reports 2-year-old A'Kyleana Louise Lathan has not been seen since Saturday. Police found the body of the toddler's mother, 24-year-old Taylor Lathan, Monday evening and believe the shooting occurred Saturday night.

Police say the mother and toddler are believed to have moved from Texas a few months ago.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Louisiana State Police issued an endangered/missing child alert Tuesday morning, reports the Advocate. A state police spokesman told the paper officials didn't issue an Amber Alert because police don't have a suspect, suspect description or vehicle description.

"It doesn't take away from the seriousness of it," State Police Lt. J.B. Slaton told the paper.

Anyone having any information as to the whereabouts of A'Kyleana Louise Latham should immediately contact the Baton Rouge Police Department at 225-389-2000 or Sgt. Stacey Pearson of the Louisiana State Police/Louisiana Clearinghouse for Missing & Exploited Children at 337-962-2605 or Stacey.Pearson@la.gov.
