Cops investigating dead baby left in vehicle for seven hours

DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. - State police are investigating the death of a 15-month-old girl left inside a vehicle for about seven hours while it was parked at her grandfather's central New York home.

Troopers in Herkimer County say they received a call around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting an unresponsive infant in a vehicle parked in a driveway in the village of Dolgeville. That's in the Mohawk Valley, about 60 miles west of Albany.

Police say the baby's father had dropped off two other children at school around 8 a.m. and brought a third child to a relative's house before driving to the baby's grandfather's house.

Police say the father appears to have left the infant in the vehicle after leaving for work in a different vehicle. High temperatures Wednesday were in the low 70s.
