Cops: Kayak becomes getaway vehicle in Minn. burglary
MINNEAPOLIS - Police in Austin, Minn. were involved in an unusual pursuit after a burglary suspect tried to flee down a river in a kayak, reports CBS Minnesota.
Police say the incident happened at around 5 p.m. Sunday at a restaurant which hadn't yet opened for the night. An employee reportedly heard someone in the building and saw two men leaving out the back door.
Some items stolen from a cleaning supply closet were also found dropped on the way outside, according to the station.
When police arrived, they encountered two men in kayaks in the Cedar River. One of the men came to talk with police and denied involvement. The other man took off in his boat, reports the station.
Police used the fire department's boat to follow the man down the river, eventually arresting him. He was identified as 31-year-old Michael Falk. More stolen items were reportedly found inside the kayak.
Police said Falk tried to blame the other man, but that he probably wasn't involved. Both kayaks were seized.
