Cops: Ala. mother of two found shot dead in home; business partner charged

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — Alabama authorities have charged a man with murder after a mother of two was found slain inside her home Wednesday afternoon, reports CBS affiliate WIAT.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Adam Michael Burrus is suspected of killing Constance Leigh Woolweaver, 37, of Birmingham. Woolweaver’s son reportedly found her body.

Sheriff John Samaniego told reporters Friday that Burrus and Woolweaver were business partners of some kind and had known each other for several years. He said Woolweaver was shot to death and called the killing a crime of passion, although he said it was not clear if the two were ever romantically involved.

“Anger is also passion,” said the sheriff.

Sheriff Samaniego said that investigators contacted Burrus as they began to look into Woolweaver’s relationships. He said the suspect was initially cooperative but eventually invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and requested an attorney.

Burrus, who is currently being held on $500,000 bond, is a father of two and owns an artificial bait company.

Friends have set up GoFundMe page for Woolweaver’s children.

“Everybody wanted to get together to do something to help her family,” said Renee Courtland. “Connie was just a joy to be around.”
