Connecticut man killed in home on his birthday by stray bullet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Officials say a 58-year-old New Haven man was hit by a stray bullet inside his home and killed.

According to police, officers were called to the scene around 1:50 a.m. on the report of gunfire. Police told CBS affiliate WFSB in Hartford at least one person, 58-year-old Darryl McNair, was killed.

Police said McNair was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officials say an investigation is ongoing, but it appears McNair was an innocent bystander who was in his home when he was struck by a stray bullet.

A friend of the family of McNair told NBC Connecticut that he was playing solitaire in his office when he was shot. They said family and friends had been over earlier to celebrate his birthday.
