Cold Facts: Chilly dogs in Philly need to be kept indoors

PHILADELPHIA -- There's a new ordinance in place this winter in Philadelphia that requires dog owners to bring their pets indoors in case of extreme cold, according to CBS Philly.

"Extreme cold," the station says, means there's a Code Blue emergency declared by the city and the temperature with the wind-chill factor feels about 20 degrees Fahrenheit or below.

The City Council passed the pet protection measure last year, so it's the first winter that officials can require pets to be kept inside.

Susan Cosby is with the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia or ACCT Philly.

"If there is a Code Blue in effect, citizens are going to be subjected to fines that can be as high as $500. So people want to take proactive action and get their dogs inside," said Cosby.
