Cleveland city website hacked after fatal police shooting of boy

CLEVELAND - Cleveland's city website has been hacked as it investigates a police officer's fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy carrying what turned out to be a replica gun.

City spokesman Daniel Ball says the website's hosting service notified police Monday morning that the site was being attacked.

Ball says the city can't confirm who shut down the site and hasn't received direct information about that.

He says officials are aware of a YouTube video purporting to be from the hacker collective Anonymous that references website shutdowns and the shooting.

Ball says the city is adding extra security measures to prevent a repeat shutdown before restoring the website.

Police planned to provide an update later Monday morning on the investigation into the Saturday shooting of Tamir Rice.
