Child OK after falling from moving vehicle during theft

FALMOUTH, Mass. - A Massachusetts couple has pleaded not guilty to charges including child endangerment and larceny after police say their 5-year-old fell from their moving SUV as they tried to steal a TV.

Twenty-nine-year-old Lisa Degerolamo and 29-year-old Daniel McLaughlin of West Yarmouth were arraigned Monday in Falmouth District Court. Bail for each was set at $2,500. Their attorneys declined to comment outside court.

Police say Degerolamo was seen stuffing a large flat-screen TV stolen from a Falmouth Walmart into the SUV's back seat on Sunday. As the vehicle drove away, the boy fell from a door that had been left ajar because of the size of the television.

A witness told CBS Boston he saw the child fall out of the vehicle.

"As soon as she took the left and spun around that barrier to go up that hill, the boy just, he really flew out of the car and hit his head off the concrete really, really, really hard. And she made that left and just continued. She flew up that hill. See you later. Gone," the man, who wanted to be identified only as Brian, told the station.

As Brian and his wife comforted the boy, Degerolamo and McLaughlin returned in the SUV.

Brian's wife reportedly took a photo of the couple just before they put the boy back in the SUV and sped off.

Authorities later arrested the couple at their home. Police say the boy is OK and in state care.
