Mother of 8 killed in dispute over child's bicycle, police say

BALTIMORE -- A mother of eight was killed near her home in Maryland in what police say was a dispute over a child's bike, CBS Baltimore reports

Officers who responded on Monday night found 37-year-old Charmane Wilson suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported her to a hospital where she later died.

"It looks like a situation where an ongoing dispute was happening in this community between her and maybe her children and some other people," Baltimore Police Department spokesman T.J. Smith said during a press conference. "A fight took place because some kids, or some young people, young men, took a bike seat off her son's bike. Some coward with a gun came back and shot her."

According to the Baltimore Sun, Wilson notified police of the assault, which occurred when her son confronted the group believed to be responsible for the situation involving his sibling's bike.

Smith says Wilson's death "should outrage the entire community, the entire city."

"There is a murderer amongst us who is an absolutely monstrous human being," he added. "Who would shoot a mother basically in front of her family over a dispute."

At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack.

The case remains under investigation.
