Charges filed against son, friends in Tenn. dad's murder

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. - Four teens who were wanted in connection with the shooting death of one of the teens' father have been charged, reports CBS affiliate WVLT.

Zachary Blanchard, 16, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father, 36-year-old Robert Blanchard. The teen's three friends are each charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder and one count of theft.

The four also face charges in South Carolina of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen guns, failing to stop for police and resisting arrest, reports CBS affiliate WBTW.

Robert Blanchard was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound in his home in Greene County, Tenn. on the night of April 2. That led to a manhunt for Zachary Blanchard and the three others. They were captured in Newberry County, S.C. on the afternoon of April 3.

While authorities have not named a motive in the case, friends of the Blanchard family tell WBTW that Robert and Zachary had a strained relationship.

"There was just this tension between him and Zach that seemed to always be there," friend Richard Durand told the station.

The four teens are currently being held at a juvenile detention center in Columbia, S.C. It is unclear when they will be extradited to Tennessee.
