Carolina Panthers head coach's home partially burned

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera's home was partially burned by a fire that broke out early Monday morning, reports CNBS Charlotte affiliate WBTV, citing the city's fire department.

Fire officials say the two-alarm fire started just before 4 a.m. at Rivera's home on Heydon Hall Circle in south Charlotte and was "accidental."

Fire fighters said they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the house when they arrived. Officials say the top floor of the home is burned.

Fire officials said Rivera and his family weren't injured, but appeared shaken up.

There was no initial word on what started the fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish it by 5:30 a.m.

The Panthers beat the Arizona Cardinals in their NFL wildcard playoff game Saturday and will meet the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the next round this weekend.
