Cops eye sweet treat after animals die from poison
SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. -- Authorities in Northern California are investigating a case of animal cruelty after two horses and a dog were poisoned earlier this month, possibly from tainted cookies, CBS San Francisco reports.
The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said a woman who lives near Sebastopol reported on Feb. 12 that three of her animals were poisoned. One of the horses and the dog did not survive.
The sheriff's office posted pictures of the animals to its Facebook page.

Veterinarians performed necropsies on the animals and said the horse and dog died of oleander toxicity. Oleander, a plant highly poisonous to animals, was likely placed in homemade cookies, authorities said.
The sheriff's office said they are investigating "strong" leads on a possible person of interest in the case.
