Calif. family looking for answers in Army specialist's death

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. - The family of an army specialist was shot to death on his way to Bible study last month is looking for answers, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Daniel Yarbrough, 31, was shot and killed in Apple Valley, Calif. last month. Deputies found him fatally shot in his car and military personnel told Feticha Oliphant, Yarbrough's sister, he had been on the way to a Bible study.

"I couldn't think of anybody that would do something like that to him. He was just a quiet person," Oliphant told CBS Los Angeles.

The victim's sister also told the station he had been in the military for three years, joining after their mother passed away.

"That was her last wishes for him to, you know, go ahead and serve his country," she said.

A cross has been erected near where his car had been found and Oliphant is planning a walk on Saturday in honor of her younger brother.

"He was real outgoing, and he just loved life, and it's just crazy that his beautiful smile nobody's going to be able to see anymore," she told CBS Los Angeles in a phone interview.
