Brooklyn shooting injures 5, including pregnant woman

NEW YORK - Police and fire officials say five people have been injured, two critically, in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn. The gunfire broke out in Red Hook around 11 p.m. Monday. Police say three of the victims are women and two are men.

CBS New York reports that a pregnant woman was among the victims. She was struck three times and is in critical condition. One other victim is in critical condition.

The gunfire capped a violent weekend in New York City. Three people were killed and more than a dozen others were wounded in 10 other shooting incidents that occurred between Friday and Sunday.

The station reported that two men pulled up in an SUV in front of a three-story apartment building, got out of the vehicle and allegedly opened fire.

"I heard four bangs in the distance, it sounded like it could have been a shotgun, and then about five minutes later I heard a bunch of sirens," a witness told the station. "It's a big concern, it's been a very quiet area for a long time now."

"There were multiple gunshots, very loud, by the time we came to the window there were eight ambulances here and police were everywhere," another witness said. "I saw them bring out a pregnant lady on a gurney."

CBS New York reported that the victims are all between the ages of 19 and 22, and are being treated at Lutheran Medical Center.

The suspects fled the scene in the SUV. No arrests have been made.
