"Breaking Bad" spin-off "Better Call Saul" casts Michael McKean

"Better Call Saul" has called up its first new cast member.

Michael McKean ("This is Spinal Tap") is joining AMC's "Breaking Bad" prequel series, Deadline reports.

Vince Gilligan: "Breaking Bad" was "lightning in a bottle"

He'll reportedly play Dr. Thurber, "a brilliant attorney who is now restricted by an unusual affliction."

McKean will co-star alongside returning "Breaking Bad" stars Bob Odenkirk as shady lawyer Saul Goodman and Jonathan Banks as Goodman's trusted fixer/private investigator Mike Ehrmantraut.

"Better Call Saul" will focus on Goodman before he began representing Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) -- though those characters could potentially make appearances on this new series.

The show is slated to begin airing in November.
