Boy saves brother from fiery crash that killed dad in Houston, Texas

HOUSTON -- A boy saved his younger brother from a fiery crash that killed their dad early Friday, CBS Houston affiliate KHOU-TV reports.

Police said the dad lost control of the 18-wheel truck the family was using to move. He struck a barrier on Interstate 45 and then a concrete pillar. The truck flipped. The father was ejected from the truck and died at the scene.

His two young boys, a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old, were in the truck when the crash occurred.

Officers said the 5-year-old boy was somehow not seriously hurt and was able to tell police what happened.

“The 5-year-old advised us that he actually pulled his 2-year-old little brother out from the 18-wheeler wreckage,” Sgt. James Roque said.

The 2-year-old boy suffered severe burns, Roque said. He was being treated at a hospital and was expected to survive.

The older brother said their mom was driving an RV in front of them but kept going, apparently unaware there was a crash.

The crash was first reported around 1:20 a.m., shutting down lanes on I-45 for several hours.
