Possible bomb threat forces U-turn for U.S. flight

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A Spirit Airlines flight bound for Minneapolis had to return to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after authorities say a passenger possibly made a bomb threat.

Spirit Flight 595, an Airbus A320 carrying 92 passengers took off about 10 p.m. Thursday.

In a statement to CBS News, the airline said the flight returned to the gate after about 15 minutes in the air "because of a security issue on board."

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion says the flight returned "after a passenger was overheard possibly making mention of a bomb."

Concepcion says the passengers disembarked the plane while it was swept for explosives. She says no indication of explosives was found on board, but two men would be interviewed by the sheriff's office and the FBI.
