Body of missing NY college student, son of ESPN writer, found

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The body of a missing New York college student has been found, reports CBS affiliate WROC.

A medical examiner positively identified the body as that of missing Rochester Institute of Technology student, 21-year-old Max Maisel. The manner and cause of death is still under investigation.

Maisal, who is originally from Connecticut and is the son of an ESPN writer, was last seen February 21 leaving his on-campus apartment complex. His vehicle was found near the Charlotte Pier in Rochester two days later.

Police had searched the waters near the Charlotte Pier multiple times but had come up empty prior to Friday's discovery.

Police have said there is no indication of foul play in the case.

Maisal's parents released a statement following the discovery of their son's body saying, "We knew this day would come, and we are relieved that it has."

"We have mourned Max from the night that the Rochester police called to tell us he was missing. There was no other plausible solution to the puzzle he left behind," the statement said.
