Bodies of 2 teens recovered from Los Angeles River

LOS ANGELES -- Officials confirmed Monday that two bodies recovered from the Los Angeles River were a pair of teens who went missing on Friday, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Carlos Jovel, 16, and Gustavo Ramirez, 15, were found dead near Cypress Park in Los Angeles. Autopsies on the teens are pending.

Two of the boys' friends said they were with them when they fell into the water on Friday, in an area that is dangerous for swimming, according to police.

Investigators one of the teens fell in the water and another went in after him.

Officials said the friends called 911, which led to a water search, but no one was found that day. Sunday morning, the friends were able to help police identify a portion of the river where the two submerged bodies were found.

Divers recovered the bodies around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday.
