DA: Woman, 3 young children found dead in Massachusetts home

Bodies of 3 children, 1 woman found in Mass. house, police say

WEST BROOKFIELD, Mass -- Three children and a woman were found dead in a home in West Brookfield, Massachusetts Thursday, CBS Boston reports. Police were called to the home for a well-being check and made the discovery.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said the children found dead were a two-year-old boy, five-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl. "It is very, very early in this investigation," Early said Thursday night. "There are a lot of questions that still need to be answered."

Investigators were treating the deaths as suspicious. No other information was immediately released.

"State Police Crime Scene Services are just getting into the house now along with forensic scientists from the State Police Crime Lab. We need to let them do their work," the district attorney said.

Sources told CBS Boston there appeared to be several fires in the home. The Fire Marshal's office says it has investigators on scene and State Police along with the Worcester District Attorney's office are also investigating.

West Brookfield Police Chief Thomas O'Donnell says the bodies were found in an upstairs bedroom and does not believe there is a threat to the public. "While we don't anticipate or believe there is a worry to the general public, erring on the side of caution, we will have personnel at the school tomorrow," Chief O'Donnell said.

The Quaboag Regional School District said two of the children were West Brookfield Elementary School students. "The specific circumstances are unknown at this time," Superintendent Brett Kustigian said in a statement on Facebook. "The police wanted me to reassure the community that there is no cause for alarm."

There will be a normal school schedule Friday and grief counseling will be available for students and staff.

West Brookfield police also planned to have personnel at the school.

"While we don't anticipate or believe right now that there is a worry to the general public, erring on the side of caution, we will have personnel at the school tomorrow, along with grief counselors," said police Chief Thomas O'Donnell.

West Brookfield is about 70 miles southwest of Boston.
