"Blizzard babies" appear by the dozens in Connecticut

Dozens of blizzard babies born

HARTFORD, Conn. - Nearly three dozen babies - maybe more - were born during the first major winter storm on the East Coast, which saw blizzard conditions around much of southern New England.

At St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, coming in at 7 pounds 7 ounces and 20 inches long during what locals took to calling "Blizzard Colbie," was baby Hunter, who was born to mom Audria Kibbe and dad Russel Graham, both of Enfield, reports CBS affiliate WFSB in Hartford.

"Words can't describe it," Kibbe said. "I'm really happy. (It's) like I've been waiting for this for a long time."

Graham, the proud father, felt the same sentiments.

"I tried so hard to hold back from crying until the nurses left," Graham said.

Kibbe said she was feeling contractions on Monday night, right when the storm was really picking up.

She was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance during the travel ban.

"Last night I figured oh no it's not going to happen tonight and I was at ease but then out of nowhere I was like, 'OK, yeah I'm in labor,'" Kibbe said.

St. Francis Hospital in Hartford had 14 babies total during the storm, while Hartford Hospital welcomed 11, WFSB reports.
