Billy Joel to sing national anthem at World Series

There's even more excitement in store for Game 3 of the World Series.

A spokesman for Billy Joel tells Newsday the "Piano Man" will lead Citi Field in the national anthem prior to the game Friday night between the Mets and the Kansas City Royals.

How Billy Joel became the "Piano Man"

The Mets have a long history with Joel.

This season, they played Joel's "Piano Man" as a sing-along in the middle of the 8th inning break and sometimes played "New York State of Mind" after a Citi Field win.

Last week, Joel sang "Meet the Mets" and gave score updates from the NLCS's Game 4 during a concert at Madison Square Garden. He's been performing concerts once a month at the New York City arena.

Joel also sang the anthem during Game 1 of the 2000 World Series between the Mets and Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
