Best Bette yet: The Divine Miss M reflects on her career

For more than four decades. Bette Midler has been entertaining audiences on screen and stage. Born in Hawaii, she got her start performing in gay bathhouses -- with Barry Manilow accompanying her on piano.

The Divine Miss M's career really took off in 1979, when she starred as a hard-living rock 'n' roll singer in the movie "The Rose." The role, loosely based on the life of Janis Joplin, netted her the first of two Oscar nominations.

Midler wrote about her early career in 1980's "A View from a Broad." The book is now being reissued by Simon & Schuster, a division of CBS.

Now 68 and still divine, the multiple Grammy, Golden Globe and Emmy winner sat down with "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King to talk about life, love and much more.
