Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner take children to Bahamas

Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck file for divorce

Things really appear to be amicable between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.

Just days after the couple of 10 years announced they were divorcing, they apparently picked up their bags and headed to the Bahamas with their three children, where they own property.

"They were together as a family that day," a source told People. "The family felt it was important to be together and they were together. The family is united and, no matter what, will protect the kids. This isn't easy for anyone and it's devastating to Ben too. He loves his family and will always put them first."

The trip comes after Tuesday's divorce announcement: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."

Insiders say Affleck, 43, and Garner, 42, plan to live together in the family's Pacific Palisades, California, home (though in separate areas) -- with the goal of sharing custody of Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.

The longtime Hollywood pair made tabloid headlines plenty of times lately, with reports of trouble within the marriage. In a 2014 CBS News interview about the movie "Gone Girl," Affleck spoke highly about his wife, saying, "The person I found out that I married was almost better than what I thought."

Affleck and Garner started dating in 2004 after getting to know each other on the sets of "Pearl Harbor" (2001) and "Daredevil" (2003). By April 2005, they were engaged. On June 29, 2005, they exchanged vows in a private ceremony, officiated by Victor Garber in Turks and Caicos.

Garner was previously married to "Scandal" actor Scott Foley from 2000-2004. Affleck dated Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez in the past.
